Scholarship student, Kaitlin, paving a future in nursing

Released On: 12/10/2020

For Kaitlin, her dream to be a nurse can be traced back to when she was young.

“I’ve always been a very caring person and when I was little my mum got me a nursing kit. Since then I’ve always wanted to be a nurse and had a passion for it.”

One of Mater Education’s first Diploma of Nursing Townsville students and Indigenous Scholarship student, Kaitlin, is motivated by her culture and family.

“Being able to have this qualification will allow me to give back to my people and show younger generations that you can do whatever you put your mind to. I believe this qualification is a stepping stone to an amazing healthcare career.”

Mater Education is proud to offer the scholarship program, available to students with indigenous or refugee backgrounds to ensure that students from all walks of life who are eager to begin their rewarding healthcare journey are supported.

“The educators are so helpful. I can’t express how grateful I am. They are very open and encourage us to ask them for help, which I love. I personally learn better when I’m doing things hands-on and this course allows me to work in a practical way, which makes much more sense to me.”

It can be a big step to embark on a career in healthcare, but Kaitlin offers her advice to anyone considering the next step.

“It can be daunting and a lot to take on, but if you’re committed to a career where you help people, this is definitely the path to take.”
