Care of the Critically Ill Obstetric Patient Symposium 

This one-day symposium will provide an opportunity for attendees to develop their knowledge and gain insight into the effective management of critically ill obstetric patients.

Current evidence-based practice and case anecdotes will be delivered by an interprofessional team of clinical experts with extensive experience in managing obstetric patients with life-threatening illnesses.

Speakers from intensive care, anaesthetics, nursing, midwifery, psychology, obstetrics, obstetric medicine and cardiology will share the latest updates in their fields relating to maternity and critical illness. 

Course structure

This one day symposium will gather experts in the field and take a case-based approach to provide an engaging and interactive day.  There will be presentations, an interprofessional panel and a consumer story.

Workshop topics

Workshop topics include:

  • Obstetric emergencies, haemorrhage, pneumonia, sepsis and hypertensive disorders
  • Cardiac disease in pregnancy
  • Obstetric medicine: VTE in pregnancy
  • Physiological adaptations to pregnancy
  • Lactation in the ICU
  • Bereavement in the ICU

This symposium is relevant for any health practitioner who manages or has an interest in obstetric patients with life-threatening illnesses including:

  • Allied health professionals
  • Medical Officers
  • Visiting Medical Officers
  • Midwives
  • Nurses
  • Junior Doctors/ Registrars
  • Clinicians from both critical care and obstetrics who are interested in knowledge development around the critically ill obstetric patient

Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance and may be able to self-allocate 8 CPD hours as per the requirements of their professional body.
