From NCCU to prep

This five day workshop is designed for paediatric and neonatal physiotherapists to come together to explore service improvements and ongoing developmental care strategies for neonatal and paediatric intensive care patients.

Workshop topics
  • The role and scope of neonatal physiotherapy
  • Fetal development and common respiratory, surgical, musculoskeletal and neurological conditions
  • Outcomes for preterms, follow up assessments and intervention
  • Neonatal ventilation
  • Physiotherapy management of Chronic Neonatal Lung Disease (CNLD)
  • Referral to early intervention
Who should attend?
This program is designed for physiotherapists:
  • working in a neonatal or paediatric intensive care environment
  • reviewing babies in maternity hospitals
  • providing outpatient screening and therapy to NCCU babies
  • developing outpatient services models for follow up of high risk infants,
  • seeking a network of paediatric physiotherapists to discuss implementation of service improvements and developmental care strategies in their NCCU.
Course structure
This program includes:
  • lectures,
  • simulation,
  • small group activities,
  • skills stations and
  • nursery shadowing.
Learning outcome and accreditation
Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance and may be able to self-allocate 37.5 CPD hours as per the requirements of their professional body.
Duration
Five days including:
  • Day 1 and 2—lectures.
  • Day  3, 4 and 5simulation, small group activities, skills stations and nursery shadowing.
