Obstetric Emergency Practices

This one day, hands-on program provides participants with the latest knowledge and skills on obstetric emergencies. Skills are practiced using realistic simulation equipment, under the guidance of current clinical experts.

Workshop structure and topics:
Current evidence-based practice underpins the causes, risks, physiology and current management of the following topics:

  • Eclampsia and HELLP
  • Bleeding in pregnancy
  • Unplanned breech birth
  • Cord prolapse
  • Shoulder dystocia
  • Uterine inversion
  • Maternal collapse – anaphylaxis / amniotic fluid embolus / special considerations for resuscitation
  • PPH (estimating blood loss and bimanual compression)

Participants will have the opportunity to practise the associated emergency manoeuvres using specific skill stations.
