Importance of Psychological Safety

Understanding Psychological Safety to Establish an Optimal Learning Environment

Establishing Psychological Safety is critical to the creation of an optimal learning environment during educational experiences. When learners perceive that they are safe, they know, believe, and feel that they will not be embarrassed, intimidated, or ridiculed for their thoughts or actions.

This is critically important in simulation, where learners are asked to actively engage in both simulations and debriefings despite the potential for unrealistic aspects of the simulation, potential threats to professional identity or discussions about mistakes.

This three-hour workshop will engage participants in deliberate practice and learning on establishing a psychologically safe learning environment, and discuss techniques to maintain an optimal learning environment. This session also includes the opportunity for networking over afternoon tea.
