Medical Administration

Mater Education gives you the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills you need to work in medical reception and administration. Even if you already work in a similar role, this course will give you the chance to expand and formalise your current skills and knowledge.

The knowledge and skills you learn in this course will prepare you for roles including:

  • medical receptionist (for both public and private practices)
  • medical administration
  • ward clerk
  • medical records clerk
  • medical secretary.

You'll be taught by industry experts, and you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the accredited units you complete successfully.

Course outline

The course is delivered over three days at Mater Education, with an online Medical Terminology learning module included which can be commenced prior to attending the workshops.

  • Medical terminology (online learning)
  • Customer service, communication, policy and procedures (workshop one)
  • Medical records, privacy and confidentiality, and appointment booking (workshop two)
  • Billing processes, Medicare, and private health insurance (workshop three)

You can access trainer support at each workshop and during business hours.


The course is delivered in three full-day workshops (8.15 am – 3.30 pm), and includes online learning for independent study.

The course may be held over:

  • three consecutive days, or
  • one day per week over three consecutive weeks.

On enrolment and prior to attending your selected course Mater Education will provide you with online course materials via our Learning Management System.

Should you change your mind prior to commencing the program i.e. you do not access the course materials a full refund will apply less a $15% administration fee.

If you access the course material at any time and then change your mind, Mater Education is not obliged to provide you with a refund.

Units of competency and learning outcomes

The following units of competency are included in this course:

  • BSBMED302 Prepare and process medical accounts
  • BSBMED303 Maintain patient records
  • BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately
  • BSBMED305 Apply the principles of confidentiality, privacy and security within the medical environment
  • BSBCUS301 Deliver and monitor a service to customers

If you have successfully completed any of the above units previously, please contact us before applying and paying for the course. You will need to enrol through a different process, to ensure you don't pay for the unit/s you don't need.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment, which will be recognised for credit into the following qualifications:
