Pathways apply to subjects and courses that are part of the Australian Qualifications Framework, they allow you to move through qualification levels with full or partial recognition for the qualifications and/or learning outcomes you’ve already completed. 

You can gain credit (recognition of equivalence in content and learning outcomes between different types of learning and/or qualifications) to reduce the amount of learning required to achieve a qualification. You can do this through credit transfer, articulation, recognition of prior learning or advanced standing.

  • Advanced standing is credit for any previous learning.
  • Articulation lets you progress from a completed qualification to another with admission and/or credit in a defined qualification pathway (as well as credit transfer).
  • Credit transfer is a process that gives you agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification, based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assesses any relevant prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) to determine the credit outcomes of an individual application for credit

There are no pre-determined pathways into Mater Education's training programs. However, each course will have pre-requisite entry requirements. While entry requirements don’t inhibit students from applying for credit, it must be sought before enrolment to the programs.

Students who successfully complete the Diploma of Nursing or Diploma of Anaesthetic Technology program can apply to any University for 33% credit for a Diploma linked to a three year Bachelor Degree or 25% for a Diploma linked to a four year Bachelor Degree.

From 1 July 2017, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) has changed its policies relating to credit transfer and RPL to now state that credit transfer or RPL must be consistent with AQF national principles and the graduate's ability to meet the NMBA Enrolled Nurse Standards for Practice.

Recognition of Qualifications issued by other RTOs

Mater Education will recognise and accept AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by other Registered Training Organisations.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Prospective students who have worked in an industry related to the course, or who have studied elsewhere, may apply for recognition or credit transfer for some or all units of the course. They’re encouraged to make enquires about the RPL or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) process, bearing in mind the competency needs to be current and relevant to the training program outcomes.
