Educating the Educators Symposium

Ignite, Innovate, Motivate

Are you passionate about healthcare education? Do you value investing in the development of your own education skills? If you're interested in delivering engaging, innovative and motivational education then this professional development opportunity is for you!

Unlike other conferences, the Educating the Educators Symposium will see you leave each day inspired by the people around you, building real and long-lasting personal and professional networks.

Our goal is simple; to build a community of passionate people who are committed to quality healthcare education, while empowering you with real world skills that you can take back to your workplace and immediately implement.  This symposium will see four themed days, allowing you to become fully immersed in a topic and have time for reflection on your learning outcomes.

Who should attend?

Educators or clinicians who are interested in developing their healthcare education skills, networking, collaborating and joining a community of practice.

Course structure

The symposium will be interactive, immersive and engaging with a focus on educating for the future—empowering the community to be the educators they have always wanted to be. Each day will start with an exciting key note presentation, followed by smaller group workshops enabling an experience that is guaranteed to have you leaving with new skills that you can use back in your daily practice.

Day 1 – Digital technology in education

Digital technology is changing the way we educate. On day one we will explore why social media is a great place to find our community of practice, and step through a framework for making friends and dropping knowledge on the worldwide web. Podcasting and webinars are also great mediums for knowledge sharing and education—we will look at these through interactive and hands-on workshops aiming to reduce the learning curve and barrier to entry for use of both of these mediums.

Day 2 – Educators as leaders

Knowing that educators are viewed as leaders and influencers in their organisation, day two will integrate leadership with neuroscience-based and coaching in the workplace workshops, as well as a key note presentation that examines how educators can both survive and influence organisations. We will also host a panel with health executive, clinicians and educators examining the challenges that come with investing in education for the workforce.

Day 3 – Translating learning through simulation

It’s hard to imagine education without simulation. People learn through experience so day three will see workshops which help facilitate knowledge and skill development required to design and deliver innovative and engaging simulation programs. We will spend time focussing on how to create a challenging yet safe learning environment, effective debriefing and delivering simulation in the clinical context.

Day 4 – Engaging your audience

Engaging your audience is key to facilitating learning, yet sometimes very hard to accomplish. Day four is all about what you can do as an educator to ensure all of the education you deliver gets a five star review.  We will explore how to design content that is appealing, inspiring and effective as well as the art and science of a great presentation.

Timetable will be released in the coming weeks.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance and may be able to self-allocate up to 30 CPD hours as per the requirements of their professional body.

Participants can register to attend either the full symposium (all four days) or individual days.

The program for each day is 8.30 am - 5 pm.
