Mater awards at urological nursing conference

News

Mater has been awarded the Most Innovative Paper at the 2016 Australia and New Zealand Urological Nurses Society (ANZUNS) conference.

The paper, Development of a Urology Indwelling Urinary Catheter Management and Catheter Care Module eLearning On-line Resource Package, written by Mater Clinical Facilitator Carolyn Warren, was based on an eLearning module developed with Mater Education’s eLearning & Instructional Design Coordinator Susan Bown.

The eLearning urology module, which is the first of its kind in Australia, was designed to be interactive, interesting and beneficial to all clinicians seeking to increase their basic urology knowledge and clinically adhere to best practice principles. The module was widely reviewed and then released to Mater employees through Mater Online Virtual Education System (MoVES).

Carolyn submitted an abstract on the e-learning to ANZUNS, which was presented by Mater Clinical Nurse Consultant in Urology Michelle Roberts (pictured), on Carolyn’s behalf.

The presentation illustrated how the content for the eLearning module was developed, and explained the rationale and purpose for the module within Mater.

ANZUNS President Maryanne Sinon congratulated Michelle on her presentation at the conference, noting that Michelle’s presentation of the paper assisted in securing the award for Most Innovative Paper.

Michelle was also awarded the Abbvie Emerald Professional Development Award to access professional development in urology care, focusing on improving outcomes for patients.

Over 900 urologist and nursing delegates attended the conference which included one day of ANZUNS workshops and two days of paper and poster presentations and guest presenters.
