Mater Education Board


The Mater Education Board of Directors will ensure operational and strategic governance of Mater Education in alignment with Mater's ministries, now and into the future.

Dr Kim Forrester

Board Chair

Dr Kim Forrester is a registered nurse and barrister-at-law with a Master of Laws (Advanced) and a PhD. Her clinical background includes intensive and coronary care nursing.

Julia Strickland-Bellamy

Group Chief Executive

Ms Strickland-Bellamy joins Mater from Aurora Healthcare, where she has been Australian Chief Executive Officer and Director since 2021, successfully leading business performance for the network of 16 hospitals across the country.

Lucy Laakso

Company Secretary

Lucy Laakso has extensive experience as a company secretary and corporate lawyer. Lucy has been a driving force in company secretariat, corporate governance, compliance, and risk management across diverse organisations. Her portfolio includes ASX-listed companies, not-for-profits, private entities and government.

Christine Went

Board Member

Chris Went is the Executive Director, Mater Hospitals. This role is responsible for the day-to-day  operational management and oversight of Mater Health acute care services across the state and supports 11 acute care facilities.  

Alanna Jacoby

Board Member

Alanna is Chief of Mission at Mater. After spending 30 years in Catholic Education, Alanna made a career change in 2019 to become Director of Mission for Mater Private Hospital Townsville and in 2021 was appointed Chief of Mission for Mater across Queensland.
