Jo-Anne Lobb
Senior Manager, Certificate Programs
“Immerse yourself. Embrace challenges. Don’t just dip your toes in.” It’s simple advice, but for Jo‑Anne Lobb it reflects a career built on curiosity, resilience and a commitment to helping others succeed.
With more than four decades of experience in the healthcare sector, Jo‑Anne now plays a pivotal role in shaping the future workforce as a senior manager at Mater Education. From her early beginnings in nursing to her current leadership position, her focus has remained consistent: supporting people to grow into their potential.
“Be true to yourself,” she says.
“Self-reflection is important—looking at where you are, what your purpose is, where you want to be, what you want to do and who’s coming along for the ride that can support you.
“People who are passionate shine when they’re doing what they do best.”
Jo‑Anne’s own journey began as an enrolled nurse before she joined Mater in 1996 as a phlebotomist. Over time, she stepped into leadership roles within pathology, where she developed a passion for mentoring and guiding others.
In 2017, she transitioned to Mater Education to focus on empowering the next generation of healthcare professionals—an area that continues to inspire her.
“Watching people grow into what they’re good at and seeing students hit those big moments they’ve worked for reminds me why our work matters,” she says.
Today, Jo‑Anne oversees a wide portfolio of programs, including Certificates II, III and IV, the Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) program, and key qualifications such as the Certificate III in Pathology Collection and Certificate III in Health Services Assistance. Through these programs, she is helping thousands of students take their first steps into healthcare careers.
Despite the many changes in her career over the years, one constant has been her dedication to teamwork and patient care.
“My Nana gave me her fob watch when I started nursing, and it’s something I’ll always treasure,” Jo‑Anne says.
“It reminds me of why I started nursing—to help others and to be part of a healthcare team.”
For those considering a career in healthcare, Jo‑Anne encourages people to step forward with confidence and curiosity.
“Don’t just dip your toes in,” she says. “Immerse yourself into something that might challenge you.
“Embrace the opportunities in front of you.”
