Start your allied health career in Springfield
A new course at Mater Health Hub Springfield is helping students of all ages kickstart their careers in health.
The Mater Education Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance gives students the skills they need to start working in fast-growing areas such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, rehabilitation and community services.
Phoebe Arnold completed the six-month course after leaving high school and is now working as an allied health assistant.
“I’ve always wanted to be a physiotherapist, but university didn’t feel like the right fit for me," Ms Arnold.
"When I found this course, it seemed perfect. I love working with people and being involved in the community, so it ticked all the boxes.
“At first, I didn't know what to expect. I was the youngest in the course by a few years so when I started my studies, I felt a little intimidated.
“Over time, I had the opportunity to bounce off everyone’s knowledge and experience, both my fellow students and our educator. It’s been a great learning opportunity.”
Ms Arnold studied in Brisbane, but from 12 May the course will also be offered in the heart of Springfield at Mater’s purpose-built health and education hub on Southern Cross Circuit.
Ms Arnold urged anyone thinking about a career in healthcare to find out more.
“If you’re passionate about helping people and want a flexible, supportive learning environment, this is the course for you,” she said.
The Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance is a career-entry course and students do not require previous experience or qualifications. Fee assistance is available for eligible students.
