Mater Education celebrates its newest graduates

News

Mater Education has celebrated the success of 167 students graduating from its exceptional healthcare courses yesterday.

The Diploma and Certificate III graduates were honoured in front of family and friends at ceremonies throughout the day.

The Diploma Graduation Ceremony observed 89 newly qualified Nursing and Anaesthetic Technology graduates. Amongst them, was Mater Education’s very first part-time cohort of Diploma of Nursing students!

The Certificate III Graduation Ceremony celebrated an additional 78 students completing the Allied Health Assistance, Health Services Assistance and Pathology Collection courses.

Allied health graduate Renee Whitbread, addressed the contingent on behalf of her fellow classmates and said the whole experience was incredibly rewarding.

After a mishap playing tennis and subsequently 10 weeks in a moon boot, Renee was inspired to make a career change to help others dealing with health issues impacting their daily lives.

“My injury meant I couldn’t drive, run or ride my bike, and after an additional six week of rehabilitation, I was feeling depressed.

“A physiotherapist then took me through a lower body work out, and I couldn’t believe what a difference it made! I immediately felt more positive and gained some normality back into my life.

“That’s when I decided I wanted to make a career out of helping others – particularly people with greater injuries than I had suffered.”

Renee chose to study at Mater Education after learning about the course at a Careers Expo.

“I did my own research and chose to do the course at Mater because of the hands-on training and expert educators.”

Renee now hopes to secure a role as a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist Assistant and is excited about the challenges and career path that is before her.
