Mater Education congratulates nursing graduates

News

Yesterday Mater Education celebrated the success of 56 Diploma of Nursing graduates who, after 18 months of study and practical placements, are each now ready to embark on a rewarding career as an enrolled nurse.

Surrounded by family, friends and the Mater Education team, the graduates reflected on how far they have come, how much they had learnt, and the challenging, honourable and rewarding careers that lay ahead of them.

Mater Education Head of Discipline (Diploma of Nursing), Katherine Jackman, congratulated the graduates on this significant accomplishment.

“The graduands here today have successfully completed a complex and challenging nursing program that combines the very best of Mater’s nursing traditions—compassionate, patient-centred care, based on contemporary, evidence-based nursing practice models, with a strong focus on achieving high levels of clinical competence, improving patient safety and facilitating optimal patient outcomes,” Ms Jackman said.

Mater Education’s Diploma of Nursing course is an 18 month program, delivered onsite at Mater’s South Brisbane campus, that gives students the knowledge and skills they need to become an enrolled nurse.

Students get hands-on experience in Mater’s world-class clinical simulation facility and exceptional hospitals, and can choose from a wide variety of electives including emergency, mothers and babies, paediatric, diabetes, anaesthetics, perioperative and palliative care.

Over 350 students have graduated from the course since it began in 2011.
