Mater Education delivers Maternity Emergency SIM training at John Flynn
Mater Education delivered its Maternity Emergency Management simulation course off site at John Flynn Private Hospital last week—the first time the course has been run at a venue other than Mater.
The Mater Education team have been running the Maternity Emergency Management simulation (SIM) course for a number of years for Mater staff, particularly midwives, obstetric medical officers, GPs and midwifery and medical students, and have also previously run the course for external participants at Mater’s world-class simulation facility.
Mater Education Simulation Manager Sharon Clipperton said the day ran very smoothly and was very well received by John Flynn Private Hospital participants.
“We took 12 John Flynn Private Hospital staff, including midwives and obstetric medical officers, through the interactive program which implements Crisis Resource Management (CRM) principles and human factors throughout simulated scenarios,” Ms Clipperton said.
“This was an exciting opportunity for the two teams to work together to improve clinician and team work skills to place women and families at the centre of maternity care.”
The Maternity Emergency Management simulation course is a one-day, hands-on interactive program which utilises skill stations, immersive scenarios and reflective debriefs to help interprofessional teams manage a range of maternity emergencies.
