Providing skills and confidence for carers of children with higher care needs

News

Mater Education, in collaboration with Mater Children’s Private Brisbane, is proud to announce the launch of a new six-part suite of courses, Children with Higher Care Needs.

The new offering is designed for carers, educators, coaches and support workers in the community, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and confidence to provide specialised care for children with various needs.

The courses have been developed by Mater’s own highly qualified team including paediatric nursing clinicians and paediatric educators, and address a range of common needs including epilepsy, diabetes, tracheostomies, stoma care, anaphylaxis and spectrum disorders.

Marie-Clare Ross, Lead Educator and former Clinical Facilitator Mater Children’s Private Brisbane is excited to launch the courses. “By collaborating with the Mater Children’s Private Brisbane, we have been able to identify the issues that carers regularly ask for more information and specialised training on, so that they can care for and support children and their families in the community.”

“Their key priorities are safety and increased confidence in the day to day care of children with various care considerations, and being able to respond in an emergency. We are proud to bring these courses to market, and are expecting a lot of interest.”

This suite of six courses runs over three months with two courses per month. Participants can attend a course (half day) as a standalone course or attend two courses (full day) each month.
