Mark’s transition from tradesman to healthcare

Released On: 18/11/2020

After spending 16 years working as a tradesman, Mark is changing the direction of his career with Mater Education.

Mark began his healthcare study journey with the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance and continued his healthcare education through the Certificate III in Individual Support via our gap program, which will see him graduate Mater Education with two qualifications.

As someone with an abundance of respect and patience for the elderly, Mark is oriented towards the caring and compassionate side of aged care.

“I am in awe of the stories and lives that the elderly have lived. I think it takes patience and understanding to work in aged care, and that is something I am able to accommodate.”

He’s already experienced the hands-on aspect of Mater Education’s courses through his placement, which saw him gain real-world experience in the industry.

Mark chose to study with Mater Education because of the interactive nature of the course.

“I prefer to learn face-to-face with people in a classroom environment. That’s just something you don’t get from online learning or large cohorts. I’m able to directly chat to the educators and have practical techniques explained to me in person.”

“I’ve met some great students and phenomenal staff who are extremely passionate about healthcare. I feel much more prepared to go into the workforce having learned from real staff before starting work.”

Mark’s good nature and genuine character will make him an asset to the aged care sector and we are confident he has a bright future ahead in healthcare.
