Delivering life-saving training to local school
Staff and students from Mount Alvernia College are now better prepared if they need to act in a medical emergency situation, after hands-on CPR and First Aid Training sessions with Mater Education earlier this month.
Those who took part learned best-practice techniques through Mater Education’s world-class simulation methodology, taught by experienced healthcare education facilitators.
Terry Donaghue, RTO Manager at Mount Alvernia College coordinated the training as a requirement of the student’s Certificate III in Fitness qualification, and for teachers who needed to renew their qualifications. “We consider it essential that both staff and students understand First Aid and CPR, especially as we head into the summer months of beach and swimming time. Additionally, as our staff are involved with many extra-curricular activities, it is essential for them to be up to date with First Aid and CPR should emergencies arise.”
“Everyone really enjoyed the hands-on component of the course. Working on the manikins and the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) proved very popular and engaging with the students and staff.”
“Mount Alvernia already has a great relationship with Mater Education through the Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) program, where students gain a Certificate II in Health Support Services. We have been very happy with the feedback from our students and the quality of training delivered.”
