Dad’s the word! Father’s-to-be upskill in their First Aid for Babies education

News

New father-to-be, Lucas, attended the first Mater Mothers’ First Aid for Babies course held in Springfield in June with his father-in-law, Garry, to ensure they were both well prepared for the new addition into their family.

For Lucas, the course provided him with the reassurance that he could respond appropriately to any emergency that his little one may face.

“I had never taken a first aid course before and my wife and I are expecting our first child, so my father-in-law and I thought it was important to know some basic first aid skills for them,” said Lucas.

“Having the manikin's to practice on and experience actually attempting first aid on a baby was a fantastic help as well.”

For Garry, the course served as a refresher.

“It’s been quite a while since my children were babies, so I was not sure I would recognise the signs or know what to do in an emergency. I am now feeling far more confident that I could react calmly should an emergency occur. I would highly recommend the Mater Mother’ First Aid for Babies course for all grandparents.”

The course was hosted by Mater Education Clinical Educator, Sally, who has extensive experience in nursing and maternity care.

“Sally was lovely, really friendly and helpful, and very happy to share her knowledge and experience with everyone in the room. I would recommend her class to anyone.”

Mater Mother’s First Aid for Babies is a unique and popular course hosted at Mater Hospital Brisbane, Mater Private Hospital Springfield and Mater Private Hospital Redland.
