Anupama turns nursing dream into reality
Anupama Dhiman is swapping numbers for scrubs, making a major career change through Mater Education.
The mum-of-two has enrolled in the 18-month Diploma of Education program at South Brisbane, joining 99 other students at orientation week recently.
A former accountant, Anupama said her decision to enrol in the Diploma was a bold one.
"This is a really big step for me, I was an accountant for almost seven years in Brisbane and before that I worked in the stock market in India for six years," she said.
"I have already completed my Certificate III in Health Services Assistance.
"There was just something in the back of my head about helping out people in the community so that's why I want to be a nurse."
Anupama said she can't wait to become an enrolled nurse, with hopes to continue studying at university and graduate as a registered nurse.
She’s looking forward to the challenge of studying again at age 39, even though it will be a balancing act.
"I have two children, they're five and seven years old and I also work part time, so I'm a bit uncertain as to how I'll manage it all with the Diploma," she said.
"It looks hard from the outside but once you start it will get easier and easier!"
Mater Education's next intake of the Diploma of Nursing program is now open for Brisbane in October 2022 and January in 2023.
